ABOUT US - ACREFAIR YOUTH FOOTBALL CLUB

FAW - BEHIND THE LINE

Behind the Line… are you onside

Everyone who takes part in football has the right to have fun in a safe environment.  This relates to during and after a game, tournament or training session.  You should never be made to feel unhappy or uneasy when participating in football – whether by the coaches, the referees, spectators or other players.

It is wrong for someone to

- Threaten, kick or hit you

- Persistently tease you or call you names

- Aggressively shout at you/put you down

- Put pressure on you to do something which you don’t want to

- Touch or do anything to you which makes you feel uncomfortable

- Make you feel sad, upset, worried, hurt or embarrassed

- Make you participate in sexual activity or improperly suggest this type of behaviour

- Steal/hide/destruct your property

You have the right to

- Be respected and treated fairly

- Not to be bullied or feel threatened

- Say NO! if you are uncomfortable with anything

- Have fun and enjoy football!

What does this mean?

If you are concerned about the way a coach, team manager, referee, spectator, another player or anyone involved in football is treating you or another – remember there is ALWAYS someone there who you can talk to and trust.

- Talk to your parent/carer or your Club Safeguarding Officer, who is there to help

- If there is no Club Safeguarding Officer or you are unable to contact them, tell an adult you trust or ask a friend to do this for you

- If you are uncomfortable with talking about your worries to someone in person, then why not visit a website or email someone that can offer you Advice?

ABOUT US

The Pontcysyllte Aqueduct

The Bont Playing Fields (The Bont), the home of Acrefair Youth Football Club is idyllically located within the the shadows of the spectacular World Heritage Site, The Pontcysyllte Aqueduct (Traphont Ddŵr Pontcysyllte).  The 18-arched stone and cast iron structure, which took ten years to design and build, was completed in 1805 by Thomas Telford.  It is now the oldest and longest navigable aqueduct in Great Britain and the highest in the world.

Monsanto Hockey Club

Around 1919 Monsanto Hockey Club was formed then under the name of Graesser, this being the original chemical company based in Cefn Mawr.  Hockey was started by young chemical engineers who joined Graesser after the First World War.  In 1926 Monsanto, the American chemical company purchased the Graesser’s chemical works and the Club became Monsanto Hockey Club. The Club played their games at The Bont.  It is said and reported in various historical books that a West Indies cricket player visiting The Bont hit a six over the aqueduct.  The Bont was developed over the years to produce two first class grass pitches with a clubhouse.  In the mid 1960’s Wales played an International match against Scotland at the Bont.

Cefn Druids

In 1872 Plas Madoc Football Club, founded three years earlier, became Druids when the various colliery and quarry teams in the hills around Ruabon and Cefn Mawr were brought together under one banner.  Six Druids players were in the first Welsh international side which played Scotland on 25 March 1876, the most from a single club ever to play for Wales.  In 1920 the club left Wynnstay Park to combine with Rhosymedre to become Rhosymedre Druids, playing at Church Field.  They then merged with Acrefair United in 1923, becoming Druids United.  During the 1950s, Druids built links with Monsanto who provided The Bont as the playing field.

Cefn Albion

Formed in 1967, Cefn Albion initially played at The Bont then at Rhostyllen, Ty Mawr and Church Field before settling back at Ty Mawr.

Acrefair Colts

In 1999 Acrefair Colts FC who played at The Bont changed their name to Acrefair Youth FC who still to this day plays at The Bont.  In 2003/2004 Acrefair Youth Football Club were crowned Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) Division One Champions.
